Doodle Booth 2.0 – our biggest update ever!

Doodle Booth 2.0 – our biggest update ever!

I am incredibly happy to announce that Doodle Booth version 2.0 is finally live on the App Store :)

Coincidentally in about a month it’s also the second birthday of Doodle Booth!

You should check out the new version right now and read through my blabber below later on!
https://itunes.apple.com/app/doodle-booth/id403497940?mt=8

What’s new in version 2.0?

Shortly on what’s new in version 2.0 – we’re catching up with iOS5 and iOS6 and we’re putting in new content and new functionality:

★ Christmas update! 10 new stickers for free users, 20 new stickers for upgraded users.
★ Instagram integration is built-in now!
★ new export options to Dropbox, Evernote, Halftone, HDR Camera, Social networks, wireless printing and more! *
★ iPhone 5 screen upgrade!
★ iOS6 features (the app still runs on iOS5+)
★ We use the new buil-in Facebook and Twitter integration
★ We added new font selection feature to the word baloons!
★ Now you have a color picker so you can choose your own colors for your stickers!
★ Easily re-activate your upgrade on ALL your devices, by using the new re-activate button!

★ And … not only we added all these new features and content, but we also made the app size smaller !

I wanted to share some insights of the 2 year history of Doodle Booth on the App Store. Unfortunately I don’t have really consistent data over the 2 year span, because the technology changed so much, but I’ll still try to give some insightful numbers here.

The app history and some numbers

Before launching version 2.0 I actually sat down and quickly dug through the Google archives to check all the Doodle Booth mentions. Here are some that caught my eye (feeling quite proud when reading through actually):

♡ pocket-lint.com: “Best iPad 2 apps for the new camera”
♡ appadvice.com: Featured in “Photo Booth Apps”
♡ babble.com: Featured in “Top 25 iPhone Photo Apps”
♡ whatiseenow.com: Day 57 of 100 Photo Apps … “Lots of fun.”
♡ appsundco.de: 4 out of 5 stars!
♡ waitmag.com: THE APP OF THE WEEK: DOODLE BOOTH
♡ topappreviews101.com: “Get a big smile on your face with Doodle Booth HD…”

Cool stuff!

Then I went to Appshopper.com to check out on the updates history, this might be as well interesting for you guys. We kept releasing content updates relatively regularly to keep people interested. And it certainly paid out to. Here’s the version history of Doodle Booth through the years:

» Dec 06 ’12 Version 2.0
» Sep 05 ’12 Version 1.99
» Mar 12 ’12 Version 1.98
» Aug 05 ’11 Version 1.96
» Jun 07 ’11 Version 1.94
» Apr 13 ’11 Version 1.92
» Mar 25 ’11 Version 1.9
» Mar 04 ’11 Version 1.8
» Feb 12 ’11 Version 1.5
» Jan 14 ’11 Version 1.0

As you can see we had to put 10 versions out in order to decide to bump up the major version number. We kept adding also features every now and then, but the app is so simple that we didn’t then want to overwhelm the users.

We also released an HD and HD Free versions for the iPad and that’s been a blast. People love Doodle Booth on the iPad :)

Apple has been good to Doodle Booth in general – either the iPhone or the iPad versions were almost constantly featured in different countries around the world throughout its first year. And downloads were also good! In the 2012 not so much, but still decent.

It seems like Doodle Booth has a pretty constant fan base – 2 years after launch is still has the whooping (for my perception) ~ 10,000 unique users a month! And the stats are looking great! This is google analytics reporting on the last month:

Also one notable thing happend – we’ve noticed lots of users started using Doodle Booth and Instagram together :) Quick search in Instagram by the doodlebooth hash shows incredibly amusing results:

By the way – that’s why we’ve added direct integration with Instagram in the new version! :)

All in all – there’s tons of new stuff, and Doodle Booth has had a great run so far! I really hope version 2.0 will be well accepted!

Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays to everyone :)

Cheers, Marin
